About Me

May Chau, in a nutshell

I’m a Vancouver based, pocket-sized harvester of excessive thoughts at the blog “It’s fruitcake weather!”. My first and last resort to maintaining a conversation is to comment awkwardly on the weather. Since birth, I have been most frequently asked “Were you born in May?” and “How do you spell your name?” to which I answer “No” and “Let me re-enroll you in kindergarten.”

I have one sole belief: Pajamas > People

How The Blog Was Named

(Believe me, this is kind of a big deal.)

‘itsfruitcakeweather’ is a reference to the short story I loved as a child: ‘A Christmas Memory’ by Truman Capote. Since I read it at a young age, I interpreted the meaning of “fruitcake weather” to be a wonderful forecast –basically sunshine and bunnies frolicking in the meadows if you will. As I grew older and read it countless times more it became more evident to me the environment being described and the hardly pleasant weather. I feel a lot of decisions in life to be the same… there is no perfect answer and thus, all is left for our individual interpretation.

  9. I like the fruitcake explanation, and it gives me another Truman Capote book to read. I skipped right over “In Cold Blood” and read “Breakfast at Tiffany’s” one summer as it was a featured book in the NY Times, in the summer of 2004.
